Hitachi Finance

Hello everyone

My husband and I bought a sofa from DFS on a 6-month repayment scheme. Short and sweet, but never again! (Never say "never-never" is my new motto!)

Despite telling salesman I was public sector, when the paperwork came through, it said I had opted for PPI. The finance company is Hitachi Finance.

First payment was due in December '08 - in October/November '08 I telephoned them to say that I didn't request nor want the PPI, they said I needed to put it in writing. I sent a letter in November (by post and fax) - they said they didn't receive it. I sent another letter in December (by post and fax), they said they didn't receive it. I cancelled the Direct Debit and set up a standing order to pay the monthly fee, not including the PPI. In Feb they wrote to me to say I had defaulted on the agreement and if I didn't restore I would receive a default notice. I reiterated and resent copies of the x2 letters, plus another one outlining how distressedI was not being able to get my message across. Incidentally, all this sent via fax and recorded delivery - THEY REC'D THAT! I received a letter saying they were investigating my complaint.

Imagine my horror when I receive a call from the most obnoxious young man (ew, so sarcastic and condescending!) insisting that they would only cancel the PPI from February onwards and that I needed to pay the outstanding months preceeding that! Outrageous!

They have written now to say they are adding a £10 admin charge per letter they send until I pay them the PPI for the first 3 months - paying the sofa off is hard enough, without adding to it.

Is there anything I can do as I believe this to be really poor behaviour?

Thanks in advance.

How dare they treat you this way !!!!!

If they do not resolved anything for you, or put this right, I think you should complain to the financial ombudsman service, this just isn't on, give them 8 weeks after complaining, if not resolved, take to FOS.;)
    Good luck.

  • Thank you very much - I considered writing to the CEO! Certainly where I work, complaints sent to our CEO are dealt with pronto!!

    Cheeky boogers!

I will let you know how I get on, but I would not recommend Hitachi Finance to anyone...

  • Its seems I am not the only one having problems with a DFS / Hitachi CCA loan for a sofa. I have received an annual statement showing PPI payments but my loan agreement states I didnt ask for this, Hitachi are claiming their copy of the agreement shows it with monthly payments, this is impossible as they are replica's. I believe Hitachi added this to my agreement after I had signed it, THIS IS FRAUD and I am waiting for legal advice
  • Write to the Andrew Tweedle at DFS stating your case.

I did this & received a phone call the next day confirming that they would refund all of my PPI.
