I know the stock market is not performing well at the moment. But over a long period of 10 to 15 years what sort of returns do you expect on your investment (in percentage terms per year) on average?
Also what sort of return have all you seasoned investors received over the last 10 to 15 years gone (on average)?

The FT all share is down 30% over the last 10 years so that's what the average investor in the UK markets will have lost. Stood at 3000 in 1999, down to 2000 now. Some will be happier pretending otherwise.
If you take inflation into account or what they could have got by just keeping their money in a savings account then arguably a lot more.
My personal goal is to achieve annualised returns of 10% or more over the next 10-15 years. If I can get more, great, if I can't, never mind.I am a Chartered Financial Planner
