Strange connection problem

Since updating to explorer 8 I have found that whenever I play the sims 2 game, my internet connection changes from "always dial my default connection" to "never dial a connection". This happens if I am connected when I play or not. It used to happen with explorer 7, but only when the game crashed for some reason.
It only matters because I have the nuisance of having to click tools and then click connections and change it back every time I finish playing. I hope this makes sense and I hope someone can tell me why this happens and how to prevent it.
I'm grateful for any advice. thanks.

Thank you for your reply. Do you know which update I should download, I have up to Apartment Life and also Mansions and gardens stuff pack. I thought I had downloaded all the patches though. so is this a new one?
I should mention that I am not on a dial-up connection but I'm on a broadband connection.

It depends if you have the DVD or CD game. I only updated the main game not the add on packs.

I have the DVD but I'm not sure whether to update with the main game or the AP Life one.

    Update the main game.
The game no longer affects a user's modem settings when connecting to the internet via the modem.

Didn't work I'm afraid. I'm pretty sure its the fault of Explorer 8 as it started then. I had a problem with my email showing after I downloaded it as well. I don't know what will be the next problem!
