She would have to be earning less than Jobseekers' Allowance.
Have you tried claiming Council tax Benefit.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -

The only benefits that help towards the mortgage are JSA Income Based, Income Support and ESA Income Related.
If your wife worked less than 24 hours per week e.g. 23 hours and 59 minutes you could claim Job Seekers Allowance Income Based. However they would then take her earnings into account. They should also start counting the 13 week qualifying period from the date your wife stopped work not the date you first claimed JSA contribution based.
So it depends how much she earns and how much they would allow towards your mortgage as to whether you would get any help or not.
The way I always look at it is if you claim JSA IB you MAY help with the mortgage. If you do not claim JSA IB you will definitely NOT get help with the mortgage.
Hope this helps0 -
