We require confirmed and verified card/address

"Please note :- We require you to be use a confirmed address and verified card to make a payment through paypal."

Is surely both "Ebay illegal" and a pointless excercise. If the item is paid for through Paypal, what does it matter if the buyer is verified or not?

No thoughts on this, no-one come across any sellers asking for this and/or have any views on why they might be asking for this?

I'm just going to order the part anyway and see what happens.

I tend to avoid sellers that have strange things on their auctions after all, what happens if they don't get what they want? Do they just refund and then accept a neg and a non performing seller complaint.

Sellers used not to qualify for PayPal protection if they despatched goods to unconfirmed addresses. I haven't sold for a long time so am not up-to-date with rule changes (the last lot made concessions to business sellers, IRRC, I didn't investigate deeply) - maybe OP's seller isn't either.

I second that, I have seen it often on eBay, it was indeed an absolute eligibility condition of the paypal sellers protection program.
It has now slightly changed - quoting direct from papyal sellers protection conditions:

"What are the eligibility requirements for PayPal seller protection?
..... Items sold on eBay will be marked eligible even if the shipping address is marked unconfirmed. Generally, items sold on websites other than eBay will be marked eligible if the shipping address is marked confirmed and partially eligible (that is, eligible for Item Not Received only) if the shipping address is marked unconfirmed. "

It is a difficult issue for sellers, do you post to an address nominiated by the buyer but apparently unconnected with them? It may be they are genuinely sending a gift. Then again are they faking non delivery?

So easy solution, seller insists on sending to an address confirmed as associated with the buyer for the seller's further protection. (What a suspicious world we live in nowadays).

No need to get so complicated. For seller protection only send to the address that paypal give. If buyer wants it sent to another address then just get them to add a gift address.

No silly terms, no misunderstanding of how paypal works.

  • That statement made by the seller is old hat - paypal changed their rules a few months ago stating that you are still protected up to a given amount even if the buyers address isnt confirmed.
