Restricted listings of branded goods on ebay

I've been selling on ebay on and off for five years but built up most transactions in past twelve months. Have got 100% positive feedback after over 120 transactions, 90 of which were sales. Am also verified with Paypal.

Recently instead of the final confirmation window, I've started getting messages from ebay telling me that as a measure to prevent trading of counterfeit goods there is a cap on how many items I can list of that type i.e. branded toiletries/cosmetics and perfumes and that I have to wait 30 days until I can re-list those items.

I hadn't even listed much - only half a dozen things and they were all likely to sell for no more than a fiver each. It wouldn't let me list any further Boots No7 or the bottle of Lacoste perfume or shower gel I wanted to sell. I got around the Boots hurdle by listing items as only "No7" instead of Boots No7 (although oddly it still lets you categorise them as Boots No7 in the item specifics) and decided to leave listing the Lacoste stuff til the next month. It let me list some Kylie Minogue and Davidoff perfumes with no trouble.

A couple of months on and I still get the restriction notice for beauty products and then last week got it for Weight Watchers cookery book too - (though it lets you list if you type Weightwatchers).

The notice says you can ask Ebay to lift your number of items but when I did this they refused. The annoying thing is that all their criteria that they give for why they are capping your listings do not apply to me!
i.e.
  • must be long standing member - 3 months or more (hardly long time!)
  • must be paypal verified (I am)
  • must have good feedback score (I have 100%)
  • must have account in "good standing" (am all paid up so what's the problem!)

Has anyone else been getting this happen? How many feedback scores do you need before the cap is lifted?

And for goodness sake! Whoever heard of counterfeit Boots No7?!!
