I have recently acquired a 0% Goldfish card. They say I can use the supplied cheques to pay off an overdraft. Is this the same as using Mint's transfer and save cheques to do a super balance transfer into my current account or is there a hidden fee? Martin doesn't include Goldfish in his list of SBT cards.

I don't have one and therefore don't have all the T&C to hand but I must say I thought Goldfish cheques were free.
The one important thing to check is whether using a cheque counts as a Balance Transfer, a normal purchase, or a Cash Advance.
Unless it counts as a Balance Transfer it won't be at 0%.0 -
The blurb you should have received with the cheques should tell you. The last ones I had from Goldfish (Dec 03) had no fee and qualified for the special BT rate. I have used them as recently as last month and I wasn't charged a fee.
If you have any doubts, ring them up, ask for clarification and record the name and extension number of the person who advises you.0 -
You can also use these cheques to pay 'bills' for things like Road Tax or TV license, of course. [Min amount is about £50 I think] A shop is unlikely to accept these cheques as they can't be guaranteed, however. Also there is no protection with using CC cheques in the way that there is [Section 75, Consumer credit Act] with credit card purchases......under construction.... COVID is a [discontinued] scam0

Thanks very much everyone for your advice. I just wanted to make sure I hadn't missed something before using the cheques. For anyone else who is thinking of using this card, the 0% promotion is for balance transfers only. So don't use it for purchases.0
