CH: Donations on-line

I'm trying to set up our charity website to accept DONATIONS on-line.
I've looked into Paypal/Nochex, and found them too expensive, and/or unable to receive money from abroad. I'm now looking into Moneybookers.com which seems to give a better deal...
BUT does anyone know of a better way?

Try http://www.justgiving.com/
I use their service to make regular donations to Mencap (as part of my Barclaycard 0% deal). You can setup fund raising sites with them too.

Thanks for that link, but unfortunately their costs are prohibitive for setting it all up.
It's only a small local charity, so we can't justify their costs of setting up. We don't anticipate getting enough on-line donations to warrant their costs.
I've already built a website with a donation button in readiness.

Try NFP Techno (NFP = Not for Profit) - website is at
http://www.conferencehouse.co.uk/
They do a regular e-newsletter which often refers to things like online giving, but could be useful to you on other subjects too.
I suspect you will find costs dispropionately high for a small charity - but if you find a good way to do it please let the rest of us know!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Thanks so much Savvy_Sue,
I've started to subscribe to them - I'd not even heard of them before.
I'll have to wade through the back issues to see if anyone's mentioned on-line giving. I'm still thinking that moneybookers.com is the cheapest way to go so far. MUST read the small print before going ahead though.

Very laudable, but if you can't do an on-line search of their back issues quickly I suggest a polite email asking if they have covered this from the point of view of SMALL organisations - I am sure they have covered it for large charities! If you say that you've looked but not found anything immediately relevant to your situation it at least shows you made the effort!I'll have to wade through the back issues to see if anyone's mentioned on-line giving.
Anyway, HTH, hope to put a couple of other useful links on the board later ... but must now get ready for work!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Is it a registered charity? If so, you should be able to link to http://www.efundraising.org - part of Charities Aid Foundation. (Not the £150 one for direct debits etc, but the free one.) It's probably worth asking CAF's advice anyway.0

I mentioned this to someone who's been involved in setting up various websites, including charities, where online payment was wanted, and his instantaneous response was WorldPay. http://www.worldpay.co.uk/
He thought that for charities the annual fee would be waived.
What you definitely don't want to do is work something out yourself - as I'm sure you've realised, what you're paying for with these services is the security of your own and other people's financial details!
I'll do a separate post about the giftaid it! toolkit which IMO all charities should know about!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
And I've just been looking at http://www.efundraising.org and they use WorldPay too, so that's a vote of confidence in my friend!Signature removed for peace of mind0

It's worth asking whichever bank the charity banks with - some can be very helpful (thinking of the one that had the pig piggy banks ;-) )
Also, take a look at:
https://www.givenow.org
https://www.allaboutgiving.org
https://www.workwithus.org
these guys all do the online donation thing for registered charities......... not much use for my organisation (https://www.brainfog.org - cheap plug ;D
)as we're still wading through the charity registration forms etc, but you may be in a better position.
(you could try datacash too, but I suspect they will be too expensive................. very very helpful people though)0 -
Have I missed something? I am looking at https://www.justgiving.com as a way to get info out to and getting donations from, my friends and colleagues, for a private (sponsored) expedition I am doing.
I am paying my own costs for the expedition but looking to get funds to support a small UK charity that is helping an orphanage in Uganda.
I understood that it will cost the charity just £15 per month to register with them and have a page displaying their details, and an unlimited number of people like myself can have a free page describing our own event that our friends can donate through.
Just Giving does all the paperwork in getting the giftaid tax back for the charity, processes the donation and just keeps around 5%
I thought this was quite good, and am wondering if I have missed something???
BTW World Pay is not cheap for commercial ventures and complicated to set up. I recently discontinued using it for an abandoned comercial project. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
