Honneymoon fib?

Hi,

Just booked a holiday for me and my girlfriend of 6 years today and whilst looking through some ads I saw the 'Honneymoon upgrade' - made me wonder if when I arrive at the airport/hotel I could let them know we are just married and on our honneymoon.....view on this be nice as its a bit of a lie and I dont really like that. Also would they ask for evidence?

I used to be a travel agent and you are requested to take your Marriage certificate as proof . Hope this helps .
you might get away with it if people are having a slack day but it could prove embarrasing.

plus you'll be leaving yourself wide open to a holiday spent discussing when you'll be on honeymoon for real and if not why not..... Could be a costly upgrade

  • Check-in agents see this every single day so they're used to it.

It used to be that compassion was shown and newlyweds were treated, but nowadays so many people try it on 'just in case' that the goodwill has worn off. We're our own worst enemies sometimes

What happens if you are married, but haven't got the Marriage Certificate?

We're getting married in a religious service in Scotland, and we have to drop the paperwork off at the Registry Office afterwards. However the office will be closed in between the wedding and departing for the honeymoon, so we have to push the papers through the letterbox, and they'll send the certificate to our home address. Therefore we won't have the certificate to take away with us.
Here I go again on my own....

Trust me, asking for an upgrade these days simply does not work. I have worked for major airlines and travel agents and I refused to upgrade people who were on "honeymoon" for the reason posted above. Too many people tried it on. Anyway the airlines upgrade policy is to look for frequent fliers and gold card holders first, then very smart, well dressed people usually travelling without children.

An experienced airline worker will be able to spot genuine honeymoon couple anyway and sorry no, I am not telling you how! :D

Only way to get an upgrade these days is to pay for it and who wants to pay up to £400 more just to sit in a bigger seat when you could spend that money on something useful?!!

We went on honeymoon this summer and were therefore entitled to honeymoon offers including upgraded room, flowers and fruit in room and honeymoon gift - a t shirt. We told the estate agents when we booked that it was our honeymoon but at no point did we ever have to show anything to prove it (either to the travel agent or when we arrived at our island). Having said that we went to the Maldives where many of the couples there were on honeymoon so maybe they just expect it and don't ask. Have a lovely holiday whatever you decide to do.
