Panic over rental credit checks

Hi

Ok long story short my partner left me and now i need to move into rented accomodation.

The agency has advised that i would need to be credit checked and now i am in a panic. They said its £200 to do it as i am on my own.

Now i have a good job... been in it for 2 and half years, getting very good money.

BUT my credit rating is shocking from years ago... i have no CCJ's or bankruptcy that i know of. But i mean i cannot even get a catalogue lol.

What do you think the chance are of passing this check? They said i would also need a guarantor but all my family are up north and cannot travel down here to sign as a guarantor plus i wouldnt really feel comfy asking them to be credit checked.

:(

    Check out this thread:

Search for 'looking to rent and now worried about my credit score' in the forums search box. Should help.

Also, £200 for 'credit checking' sounds excessive too so be wary. Doesn't matter if you are on your own or married with 30 kids.

I'd go to some other letting agents. No way would i pay £200 for a credit check. £100 tops.

Although this won't be any good for the renting, I would get your own credit reports so you can see what your situation really is and see if you can resolve any inaccuracies. ,There is some info on the main site and you can even get them free online as long as you follow the instructions. Hi
Our gurantor lived in Kent and we were renting in Manchester they just faxed everything and usually as long as they have a mortgage should be fine. We are being charged £100 for the 2 of us to be checked so £200 seems a bit much for just one. Have a look wrong but as long as u havent got CCJs u should be fine
