Car finance firm reneging on settlement figure.

6 weeks ago, i was offered a revised settlement figure on my car.
This figure was roughly a grand under what was contracted as the final balloon payment.
I have spent this time looking for a buyer to clear the finance at the agreed lower figure. I found someone prepared to take the car off of me at more or less this value, thus eliminating any excess mileage and trumped up dilapidation charges.
This lower figure would have only become effective upon the payment of the final monthly installment.
I have an email from one of the finance co drones guaranteeing this lower price until May 1st.

On the day this last monthly payment was made, (yesterday) the finance co revoked their offer, via email, and reset it at the original contracted residual.

Anyone know where i stand legally? I have the revised lower offer in writing in email form.
Ive spent 3 weekends sorting this for a hassle free end of contract and the !!!!!!!s have pulled the rug.
Do i have any clout here?
