What to do about trip?

Hi,
I am due to travel with my Fiance on Tuesday for a 3 day break for her birthday, I have booked it as a suprise but had to tell her we are going away so she would book the time off work and not make any other plans.

Now her world has been thrown into turmoil last week as her mother has had a large brain tumour found. She has been up and down as her mothers mental state changes.
She is due to have an operation on Monday to "debulk" the tumour.
This has of course lead to the possibility of us cancelling the trip. However if the operation is successful and her mother is seeming OK on Monday evening we might still go.

How does this situation leave us with the things I have already booked and paid for? (Flights, Hotel, Bus transfer)

I am insured with Alliance and Leicesters Premier Account free travel insurance.

Can anyone advise?

You'll need to refer to the policy document:http://www.alliance-leicester.co.uk/customer-service/pdfs/Premier-Travel-Insurance-Policy.pdf
Have a look at page 16, where is says:
