I have been using AxCrypt which is quite nice - integrates into the Windoze shell and so on. It's an open source/GNU jobbie so the source code is there for all to see...
    That's the right approach! :T :T

    Hi
Have given up with yadabyte, just won't work for me on flash drive.

Re last two posts, is Truecrypt okay to use do you think? I find it easy to use but again, not on a flash drive. I am lost with this stuff  . I came across it when I was looking for a way to password protect a folder, which can't be done in XP apparently. I just need to keep other members of staff from messing up my stuff, as I am not allowed to password my profile but there is no real need for encryption.

    Another possibility

I remember Remora being recommended a while back and I tested it at the time.

i think it was quite easy to use but can't remember much about it.

TruCrypt is the best in my opinion. easy to use, truely portable and feels more secure with more options for different encryption algorithms. It is on my laptop, iPod and pen drive.
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????

Cheers for the Remora link sra. I will have a try at that tomorrow when I am less tired!

Aiadi, I agree about Truecrupt. It took me a while to figure it out but I find it so easy now. I just cannot work out how to get it on my flash (pen)drive! Now I know it can be done, and it's just me being thick, I will keep working at it.

Very easy, when you are creating your secure volume, select a file location ON YOUR EXTERNAL DRIVE and continue with the rest of the creation process as usual. To use the file again run TrueCrypt and select the file ON THE EXTERNAL DRIVE that you have created above and mount it onto a virtual drive. Hope this helps.

    At last!

    Thanks for advice Aiadi
I had a complete mental block and was going round in circles :wall:

I was trying to access the pendrive and save files to it directly instead of through Truecrypt. I kept getting the message about the drive not being formatted. For some daft reason I thought I was creating the volume on the pendrive itself. Formatted, created volume, formatted, created volume and on and on and on..........

Sorted at last........ now to find something that works with Win98!

    Cheers again!

i can recommend the use of TrueCrypt for privacy, I use it myself. Very flexible and very secure, its also been well documented and tested so you know you can trust it. Top class encryption and great flexibility too, it integrates perfectly with windows (and other OSs) so its real easy to use - even I can!

Just note that you need to have admin privileges to use it.

Does this apply for the portable (non-executable) version as well?
