Payment Protection Insurance

I have payment protection for my mortgage that covers me for unemployment which I have had to start using since being made redundant, however I wasn't covered for sickness as I didn't need it whilst I was working as we used to get up to a years pay if we were sick. As I am claiming Job Seekers Allowance should I become ill and unable to sign due to not being fit for work I will become unstuck with the insurance company that covers my mortgage. I can't seem to be able to find any insurers that will cover the unemployed for sickness - is this at all possible?

Thanks for any advice!

You cannot protect an income you havent got unless you are a housewife/househusband.

Actually there is a way to protect yourself even if you are not working. The difference is that rather than being based on your inability to work / do your own job, it is based on your inability to do certain things. For example, there is a physical test whereby if you fail 3 of the 11 criteria you have a valid claim. Alternatively you can claim under mental health test using the GAF scale.

You can chose a benefit of upto £25,000 p/a and there is a choice of deferred periods starting at 4 weeks.
