Their is most definitely a minimum term if you take out a phone line with BT. Normally the BT advisor would highlight T&C when ordering. If you dont want a particular call bundle your placed on the basic weekend standard plan, where the inclusive weekend calls are free. If you cancel it BT naturally charge for the remainder of contract.

"Unlimited Weekend Plan – standard plan

The Unlimited Weekend Plan is available to eligible residential customers making at least one chargeable call per month, with no minimum term. Exclusions and conditions apply. Please note, a minimum term of 12 months applies to line rental for new customers and those switching their phone line from another provider, signing up to this calling plan. Exclusions and conditions apply."

Unlimited Weekend Plan. For new and existing residential customers making at least one chargeable call a month with BT. Only £11.25 a month line rental with Direct Debit and paper-free billing. No minimum term, unless you order a new phone line or switch your phone line to BT from another provider, where a 12 month minimum term applies to line rental.

The cancellation fee used to be £70 but perhaps its changed. I say that because it now says in the T&C first link in this post.

    "Cancellation and moving home
You can cancel your order, free of charge, before we have provided the service. If you cancel your order after we provide the service you will incur a single charge of £7.50 (with the Unlimited Weekend or Unlimited Evening & Weekend plans) or £8.00 (with the Unlimited Anytime plan) for each month left of your 12 or 18 month minimum period."

Unless this only applies to plans on rolling contracts.

"2. Do I have to be given any information before I enter into a contract?
Only if you are a consumer (residential customer), and have had no face-to-face contact with the provider (eg if a contract is made over the phone or online). Then, the provider must give you some key information before you enter into a contract. This includes a description of the services, the price, the existence of your right to cancel and any minimum term that applies. Most of this information has to be confirmed in writing. "

£120 is the normal charge for installing a BT line.

    Hi phoenixk

As Heinz and others have mentioned, there is a minimum contract term when taking out a line with BT. That's why you have been charged if you have ended that contract early. I can check out the £50.94 charge for you, and explain how the others have been calculated once i've seen your account. I've sent a PM, please get in touch if you want me to help with this.

    Cheers
