This reminds me a little of the discussions we've had on this forum about anti-virus software. The concept of free anti-virus software (such as AVG Free) is great, but if it doesn't work properly you'd be better off paying out for one that does work properlyThanks to all who post constructively.

What have you got against people that want to pay a little bit more for something that will give them a superior product?
This is a money saving forum, I agree, but that does not mean we must only buy the cheapest bottom of the range product.
If I can get a more expensive item with a good discount, that does a better job, then that makes much more sense to me.0 -
Firstly, the quote from me that you used said it was preferable to pay for something that works better, rather than having something for free that doesn't work as well. Secondly, my signature makes it quite clear that the cheapest product is unlikely to offer the best value for money - so how you came to that conclusion about me, I'm not quite sureWhat have you got against people that want to pay a little bit more for something that will give them a superior product? Thanks to all who post constructively.

I certainly see what you're getting at, but worse case senario with with a duff SatNav is it takes longer to get home.
Although free anti-virus software works well, there's aways a catch - normally having to manually download the updates. Anyone who has never suffered the problems a virus can cause may not realise the nightmare of loosing all their data.
If you can afford a computer, and can afford an internet connection, then it's madness not to install decent anti-virus software with auto-updates. This doesn't mean there isn't a place on every machine for the (free but essential) Spybot and Ad-Aware - but these do different things.
Part of my job involves "fixing" so-called "broken" machines - and over 75% of the problem is caused by inadequate anti-virus software.0 -
Personally I'd rather take a little longer than expected to return home than lose all the contents of my hard disk, but I think people can usually find their way home anyway, and it's finding their way to a place that these are presumably most useful for. Not arriving for a business appointment on time could not only potentially lose you a sale, it could ultimately lose you your job if it happens too often!
Actually AVG Free does automatically download free updates daily, but I still do a regular scan at least once a month with Trend Micro's Housecall virus scan, which is also free: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
I'm not sure you can compare a Tom Tom Go with a Ford Fiesta or a BMW M5, eitherI'm not sure you can compare these....
