Not on tennancy agreement BUT on Council tax bill-can I claim housing benefit?

Hi,

If you're named on the Council Tax Bill but not on tennancy agreement can you still claim for housing benefit??

  • You would have to provide evidence that you are actually paying rent and exactly what this amount was.
There's a form you can get from the LHA council offices (can't remember the name?) which has to be signed by your landlord. It basically states you're living & paying rent there plus how much you pay etc.
I had to get one completed as my tenancy agreement had lapsed.

I'd be asking the question as to why you are seen as liable for CT when you aren't liable for the rent.
i.e. If you aren't the person liable for the rent it is questionable that you should be (one of the) the liable person(s) for CT

Without the full details it's hard to give a definitive answer.
