I got it for £1250 off the screen price but the trade in went down officially as about £995 - frankly I find that hard to believe in the state it was in and needing a new exhaust so I suspect there was some interesting accounting going on for VAT or something!

As I said ignoring the road tax it was probably going to cost at least £500 to keep it on the road beyond July so I can't see it really being worth much more than £500-£750 to buy. It'll go straight into auction as the dealer won't want to bother with it.

£5.5k for a car with no warranty/comeback and normal mileage seems about right to me bearing in mind most things down here are more expensive anyway! Friends of ours "imported" their car down from Scotland (they had relations up there so it wasn't a one motive trip) because the deals were better up there!

Hi, korkyb, I would try £5000. I have just valued it on the car people website and they book it at £5200 trade in valuation. Don't pay a penny more for "private plates" let them take the plate off and return it to it's original, it won't make the car worth any less.

The deal has been done (subject to satisfactory vehicle inspection from RAC or AA).

The car is in good nick & appears well looked after.

Got price down to £5175 including the private plate.

The plate is "R (single number) EME" & does seem to be worth around the £450 mark.

I havent a clue about private plates - would it be worth my while selling them on or would would it not be worth the hassle?

So all in all if I get £500 for my old mean green Fordy beast & a few hundred for the plate that would be aabout £4500 price to change.

I think i'm happy with that...................

Anyone know wheres best to go for Vehicle inspections??

AA doesnt look too bad- wondering about approaching local Garage??

You could try the plate sale, with any number of dealers - registration transfers is one I've used. They won't buy the plate, just sell it for you - but sometimes more than double what they return to you!!

Worth a try on e bay, but I wouldn't start the paperwork with DVLA, which will involve some effort & parting with £100ish, till you gota DEFINITE sale probably one reaso it was left on the car - too much hasle!!

Inspections, are best done by the garage you intend to have look after it for you, rather than a seperate company, which will never see you again.

Your local independent repair garage, would be a good start, if you haven't anyone in mind.

Also worh checking the service history is up to date, as you've still got a tiny bit of warranty left, maybe?

& check http://www.honestjohn.co.uk in his car by car section, for all the good AND bad things about Zafira (& all makes) plkus any recalls the car might have needed.

Cheers Vansboy - good advice there.

honestjohn seems to be pretty positive about the Zafira.

I've got a local "village" garage a few doors down so will pop in there tomorrow & see if they can help.

OK, here's a question. I have an N reg astra MK3, she has her problems but she does the job. BUT I've seen a 51 plate corsa, it's 1.1 to my 1.4 engine and is obviously newer. The corsa is £2775, my car is worth about £1.50 :embarasse
How would the cash for bangers work in this case because I cannot see anyone being happy at giving me a new (ish) car for £700. I take it that folk have to buy a new, new car (as opposed to a second hand but better car)
It was only when I realsied my MOT was due that I really started looking at this and I'm a bit stumped as to what it may mean for me.

*later* Never mind, I've googled about and it's nonsense. I have to buy a new car. B***er, thought it was too good to be true. Sorry guys, I should do my homework before posting nonsense.
