Peugeot 106 - Looking to purchase
Hey,
Family are looking to purchase a 106. Have been offered one privately for £1200 due to a recent death. P reg, 19000 miles, 2 owners, 1.1i.
1) Having done some research using https://www.wisebuyers.co.uk and https://www.parkers.co.uk as to the cars value they return prices that differ by around £200-£300. Is Parkers the more reliable valuation that the industry uses or is there another site that could be recommended?
2) Does anyone have experience of this car. Problems, things to look out for etc. aside from the usual information available at sites such as honestjohn?
3) Any other comments?

Pug 106, same car as the Saxo underneath, in turn based on the AX. Simple cars and should be quite good fun even with a 1.1 engine since they're very light. Mileage is low, but that's not always a good thing. If it's been hardly used then it's good, if it's done 100s of 1 mile journeys then that's bad. £1200 seems OK, maybe a bit on the high, then again £200 for a very clean example is worth paying. How much MOT on it?Happy chappy0

There is going to be 12 months MOT, 12 months Tax ...0

Check the brakes (they're not the best stoppers even when in perfect condition, and as the pads wear down they become downright dangerous). The older model has a poor safety rating and should be avoided really. Electrics can be dodgy, especially as the car gets older and the diesel version is very heavy on the lightweight suspension (although this isn't such a problem with the 1.1).
They hold the road well though and the engines/gearboxes are solid enough and the bodywork lasts well if not dinged.
I'd say the price is a little bit high and the mileage is too low at that age. However, if (and only if) the car has been meticulously serviced (every year without fail) then it might be a good buy.0 -
I had a 106 (K reg) for 8 years, I loved that car extremely easy to drive -even without the luxury of power steering.. With regular servicing I found it to be very reliable, economic on petrol I used to do about 300 miles -urban mainly on a tank of petrol -was the basic engine size. I did find that brakes etc needed replacing fairly often. From getting it at 18 months old with 10K on the clock. I replaced the brake pads 3 times, new exhaust and shock absorbers once. I had a minor problem with the electrics -the brake lights kept flashing but that turned out to be miswiring when something fairly minor was replaced - I don't recall what and the bill wasn't OUCH! I personally would get another one but do like the look of the 206 better.0

Parkers reckon £1170
Wisebuyers reckon £9500 -
I have always found the vast majority of Parkers valuations to be useless if im honest with you.0

They give you a rough idea though.Happy chappy0

Do you want it? Have you enough money? Then just buy it! It sounds like a decent deal.
They are good little cars, reliable enough and go quite well. Just don't have a crash as they are a bit lightweight.0
