I'm looking for some land to build on in County Mayo, preferably coastal areas. I've googled but can't seem to find any relevant websites in the area, I knew I should have taken notes while I was there!
Any suggestions?

Lucky you! How much research have you done into this? I have relatives over there and I know it is more difficult to get planning permission than it once was.:shhh: There's somewhere you can go and get books to read... for free!

Doesnt everyone - lol
As far as research, just starting out really. Sure I google it a few times, but obviously not well enough (or to thorough).
Achill is lovely, albeit windy! It's actually out that way I'm looking at.0 -
Re relatives - just about I think.
Mine are centred on the mullet peninsular. Achill is beautiful, when you can see it.
I took my DH there for the first time on holiday last September, he moaned about it being bleak at first but it grew on him of course! The house we stayed in was beautiful and had just been built.
There are a couple of books that may be of help in your research, I read this one out of interest.
Are you planning on it being a second home or are you moving there? When I was going through a wanting to move to Ireland phase I found this website interesting as well. After looking at these websites though the urge is coming back. :rotfl:
Keep us updated on this thread if you get past the research phase!:shhh: There's somewhere you can go and get books to read... for free!

hi, my parents have just bought land in mayo. They are both from there and we have a huge family. However, it was a long and costly process. They had two houses fall through on them and each had soicitor costs to be paid.
In one instance my parents had purchased a bungalow and had put a deposit on it. They were in the process of writing to sign the papers when i spotted their purchase on another mayo estate agents website!!!!
My parents contacted them at once and they were informed that the house was sold!!!! My parents estate agents thought they had sold it my parents when infact the other agent had the deeds!!!!
Again on another occasion the owner demanded more money when he found out they were living in England!!
Anyhow, the family have land (who doesnt) and my parents have built with the help of my brother and relations that are trades.
Hope you have better luck!0
