My toes go numb wearing trainers, what sort do I need for general use?

I need some new trainers. I used to always wear Nike Air (with the bubble in the heel) but then found that my toes were always going numb when I was wearing them so I just started wearing my Birkenstocks in the summer and Uggs in the winter. I've got 2 pairs in differen styles but they both do the same. SO I am guessing I need something more suited to my feet.

I am only a size 3 so I have to get kids sizes as ladies are usually too big or start at a 4, I have started using the Wii fit but stepping on and off is hurting my feet in barefeet so it's time to get some new trainers. But I wondered what I should be looking for and what I should be getting. I went into Clarks but the kids trainers are just that, for kids, nothing plain or suited to my feet (what do teenagers wear??).

But what trainers should I be looking for? I cannot stand the numbness I get if I wear them for more than half an hour. Why do my toes go numb? Does anyone know? They are definately the right size, any bigger and they are too big. Is there anywhere I can go to ask? The people in the local sportwear shops just seem to be there to get the sizes out and do not seem to have a great deal of knowledge on things like this.

Thanks.

I don't know what causes your toes to go numb but I have exactly the same problem when I wear a certain pair of New Balance trainers. It's weird because I've got other pairs, also New Balance, and never get the same thing with those.

Have you looked at Merrell? I have about four or five pairs and they are the most comfortable thing I've ever worn. If you look at the Go Outdoors website they often have them on special offer, or you could try Millets or Blacks.

Thanks for replying, I am glad it is not just me that gets this weirdness in the toes. They get all tingly and weird - more so when walking.

No, I've not looked at anything before to be honest, Reebok feel funny on and I've always, always worn Nike trainers, it has only been since I've had the kids I've noticed it - or maybe I am in them more - but it has just to the point where I hate wearing trainers and I need them for the exercise really, to support my feet. I even wore my uggs to the Gym and took them off to exercise barefoot it was that bad!! But summer is coming and I want to put them away and wear something else.

I'll go and have a look for Merell now, ideally I need them for this weekend as we are off to Alton Towers and I do not want to be in my Uggs for the entire trip so it's time to get some new trainers.

I've heara about Asics (?) and they are supposed to be good, does anyone know if they are?

i get that sometimes, i think its something to do with pressure. try loosening them it gets worse for me if i'm laced in too tight. it's worse with new trainers too. once they get all used and skanky it's not such a problem lol

  • Glad I am not the only one who gets this, my O/H thinks it is really weird! Someone recommended the Earth trainers when your heel is lower, got them as a pressie and they do work. Hope this helps

i can remember having glass deeply imbedded in my heel and my wonderful doctor took it out with a scalpel, because of the angle he bent my foot at i felt absolutely nothing so maybe it is to do with positioning of the foot and the nerve endings in the toes. i find a lot of trainers are not as wide as i would like too and this makes it worse

Thanks, could be that would make sense I guess. I am going to pop off to town tomorrow and see if I can get some sense out of anyone and find something that fits me well. I shall let you know.

Funny though, I thought that this only ever happened to me and that it was a bit odd - nice to see that I am not the only one!!

What socks have you got? I sometimes got tingling in my toes when I wore my trainers for long periods of time, but now I've got special running socks and they're lovely!

I also have some Asics trainers, but I don't like them as much as my New Balance ones.
