Importing from America?

I am looking to import some goods from the states i did this 2 years ago but forgotten how much it was to important and with exchange rates it will have changed but if i am importing just under $2500 worth of stuff how much extra duty/tax will i have to pay on top. And its footwear items.

Assuming it is sent by post or by courier you will have to pay VAT, possibly duty and a customs clearance charge.

VAT at 15% will be charged on the total of the goods and the shipping cost. Duty charges can be found by calling the HMRC commodity code line on 01702 366077 and can be anything from zero upwards but is typically just a few per cent. Get the sender to put this commodity code clearly on the documents to speed up customs clearance. Customs
clearance fees vary from carrier to carrier and are likely to be between 10 and 20 pounds.

The total will be about 20 per cent of what you paid to the US supplier.

All this assumes that a courier is being used. Your order sounds quite large, so if it is coming over on a freight service to a dockside or airport there will be a lot more charges.

Last time they used USP or Fedex or DHL one of the main couriers from America.
