Royal Mail Redirection

I set up a redirection for my mail from my mother's house a few months ago.

Since then I have received 5 items of mail addressed to my mother. We have the same surname but different initials and title. Each time I receive one I call RM on the redirection number (0845 of course) and get someone who tells me they can't do anything about it!!

And because they put their sticker over the address/name I have to put a new one on and new postage on and DO NOT REDIRECT on the envelope on before I send it back to my mum. Spent 5 x 1st class stamps so far. On top of £35 I am a bit annoyed. :(

Are they right, can they really do nothing to prevent my mum's mail being redirected too? She still lives there, I assured them of that!!

If you look at the form redirection is per surname so I assume you still have her surname? If this is the case it is difficult for the post person to check initials whilst sorting loads of mail.

I wouldn't have paid for a re-direction in your case - my mum redirects my stuff for me - just crosses out old address and puts my new address and puts it back in the post. Thanks mum!

Of course I realise your mum may not be willing/able to do this, but I would agree that it's open to human/mechanical error requesting a redirection if someone of the same surname still lives at the old address - are your initials similar by any chance as well?
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)

Yes, my mum has been redirecting stuff for me for over a year now though. I thought I had got it all but weird mailing lists and things don't seem to be able to change my address :(

I'm Miss T. <surname> and she's Mrs. J <surname>. I guess we will just have to live with it... Waste of money, now I know!!

However in a few months it's going to get worse as she's moving too!

right you are best contacting the redirecting delivery office
you need to check the redirection has been set up correctly
your redirection should have a note showing " not an entire family move"
plus you can get a manager to check if it is and check mail is being redirected correctly

When you contact the redirecting office don't they just send you somewhere else...

After complaining months ago (when I started this thread) and being assured the redirection office had stuck a note by our names.... guess what I have received today!?!? A barclaycard spam letter for my mum!!

What? You opened your mother's mail!? you say, No, I did not, the redirection sticker was stuck across her name.

    Aaaaargh!

It is crap because it is a monopoly. We have redirection to France each summer, always problems and you cannot complain on the complaints web page as it will not accept foreign postcodes and you have to give your new address!!!!!!!
Currently fighting to find a packet sent weeks ago, 2nd class. Post man/lady put a card saying it was too big for letter box, in UK, why did they try to deliver it? But where is it now, not at sorting office, not here in France, not, I think, returned to sender!!! Trouble is I don't know where it came from and Royal Mail do not keep records!!!!!
