Begbies Traynor search on credit file?

Evening all,
I got a strange alert tonight from Equifax. My bankruptcy order appeared on my file today under court information, which is understandable as I went BR last week. However, today, a company called Begbies Traynor did a search of my file, and under "type" it is listed as "debt collection".
Does anyone have any idea what on earth this company might be doing? Not worried as such, just curious really.
Cheers,
S

Looks like it could be one of two things - company liquidation (not applicable to me) or some kind of agency trying to find out about me to sell their debt help services to? Maybe? Who knows!!BR 08/04/09 | ED 02/10/09

Hi Sieve.....yes they are a collection company but I am sure that to run a credit search ( whether you are BR or not) needs your written authority to do so. Hence when you have taken any credit agreement in the past you will be required to sign to give them authority to access your personal data.
I may be wrong but what gives anyone the right to run credit checks without your authority (except OR) . Such data is private between you & your OR now. I am very annoyed that the Data Protection Act 1998 is so blatantly disregarded at the moment....I am having similar issues !!!0 -

Annoying isn't it! I've just discovered that searches of "debt collection" type stay on your file for 2 years too - not that I will be needing any credit but it's still a bloomin' cheek that this company has slapped a search like this on there AFTER I went BR!

Those types of searches can only be seen by you.
Anyone carrying out a search for routine credit checking/scoring will not see them, so they will not effect you in the slightest.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

It's listed under "credit searches" and according to the equifax FAQ on searches, anything under "credit searches" can be seen - it's only the "other searches" that are invisible - and it's not under there... :rolleyes:BR 08/04/09 | ED 02/10/09| BSC 255

Its still annoying that they can just get your name & search your details. I think that DCA tactics need to be regulated. When I get my head straight after this whole sorry mess is sorted for me I shall take one Company in particular to task .
DPA needs to be upheld. Just because you are in debt does`nt mean that they can flaunt the law.
Fermi - Are you sure that other Co`s cannot see searches done by other lenders/companies...in my experience I could always see who & when other lenders had run a search.....if there were too many others done then it usually result in a declined lending request !0 -
Obviously I would not expect that BR would take away DPA rights.0
