If you want to get rid of dandelions in a lawn permanently -

Easier and less damaging way to dig dandelions and other weeds out of a lawn is to use a bulb planter. Long-handled ones are better as you can use your weight to get as far down the root as possible.

Then sprinkle a little Deep Root or Root-Out in the hole before filling with clean soil. Mix in a little lawn seed in the top of the hole.

A Daisy Grubber is very good for thistles and shallow rooted weeds - and even baby dandelions if you get them early enough.

After you've dealt with the weeds cutting little and often - and not too short, is probably the best way to keep your lawn weed free.

Thankyou all for taking the time to reply :-)

It didn't enter my head about the bees and I have been trying to think of ways to get more wildlife into my garden, plus I will be needing them soon to do some pollinating for me!.... Thanks for opening my eyes :-) the dandylions are staying :-)

As said, a weedy lawn is much better for bees and other insects. They really do love clover if you can encourage that.

You could go one step further and go for the wildflower meadow effect if you really wanted to help the wildlife. Even just leaving a strip unmown will make a big difference.

Yep..wildlife-friendly....and then, on the other hand, you could dig up the whole lawn and grow food there...:D

if you want lots of bees, plant onions and leave them to goto seed - you'll get lovely big purple flowers and at the end of it, onion seed!
