Job / Car catch-22! Best way out?

Thank you for everyone's advice, am taking it all on board.
I'd love to get a "company car" but can't afford to be choosy in jobs.
However I've come to the conclusion to forget the 4wd option for now - maybe viable once I've had a few months wages come through - in which case I'll look to something small and japanese

Banger it shall be.... and a towrope in the boot!

For a banger try and ask around friends and family to see if anyone has something suitable, at least then you should get an honest measure of any problems. Buying cold can be so difficult.

The other thing to remember is folk might be holding onto bangers in the vague hope the govt. might give vouchers for scrapping them if you buy a new car in the budget.

Good luck in your search, to be one step ahead as I said last time be wary of low slung cars.
