Dell laptop 1520 and vista

Hi all,

In desperate need of some help, - background - up til 4.30 this pm my laptop was running nicely, I had moved it off charger to dining room (to do some work) and then noticed the red battery light was on, I think I then hit f1 hoping for a bit more life and now it won't boot Vista!! I have tried everything, tried vista installation disk that came with it etc. Does anyone have a clue?? Please help, I am gutted I just love my lappy!

    Hi JP,

When you say it won't boot, does anything happen at all - is there any life or is it completely dead??

From your comments I would suspect that your power lead is kaput! It was probably running on battery until it ran out of charge, hence the red light you noticed. Could you change the fuse in the plug or get someone with a power meter to check the lead for you?

Can you get to the Advanced Startup options? To do this press F8 after the BIOS has done its stuff, read here for more info:

    http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/help/323ef48f-7b93-4079-a48a-5c58eec904a11033.mspx

If you can get this far try the 'Last Known Good Configuration' and see if that works, if so you should be up and running without further problems. If not reboot and go back into the Advanced Startup options again, then select SAFE MODE and see if that works.

This is what the Advanced Menu looks like:
