Hey.
Me and my wife are off to Keswick this weekend.. Wahoo!
Can anyone recommend a good place to eat in Keswick (or very close to). Going this weekend and would love a recommendation of somewhere.. most preferably a good pub! Iv been a couple of times and therefore were booked into the gorgeous curry place on the high street but would love a great old pub to eat in!
Thanks in advance.

Hi
Not a pub, I'm afraid, but I can recommend the Wild Strawberry cafe on Main Street. We've had lunch there a couple of times and thoroughly enjoyed it.

the Pheasant, just a bit further on from Keswick on the A66 (going towards Cockermouth) is supposed to be nice but it is expensive."Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee."0

we have previously eaten at Rembrants Restaurant on the main street, virtually opposite WHSmiths. Good wholesome food, great desserts. Have also had a reasonable pub lunch at a pub (can't remember the name) on the lower section of the main square, opposite Boots, next to Threshers.0

Hello Mr_P,
This place is fab http://www.travellersrestinn.co.uk/food.html
but it's just north of Grasmere (so about 12 miles south). The food's lovely and they do some really nice real ale.
Have fun.0 -
Argh! There I was about to suggest The Jumble Room in Grasmere. It is simply divine! Great wine list, fantastic food (and it's mostly organic, not that that's the reason why we've been there twice). And I want to go there NOW! The music is great and the host is so friendly. We went there on Valentine's Day and it was simply superb!

Hi
There is a good pub in Keswick town called the Pack Horse Inn just through an archway next to the Ye Old Friars Sweet shop. It has a restaurant upstairs which serves excellent food, eaten there several times, never had any reason to complain. You may be need to pre book though.
Also the Dog and Gun serves wholesome reasonably priced food If your prepared to stand and wait for a table. Just around the corner from the main fish and chip shop on the main square.
Hope you have a good weekend, Keswick is a lovely place.0 -
These are the two I love, Dog & Gun cheaper than the Pack Horse. Both great value for money.tikka wrote:Hi

Oops - sorry about that - hope that this isn't too late for you. Here's the link:http://www.lakedistrictinns.co.uk/travellersrest.html0 -
this won't help for this trip, but we stayed in a B&B near workington last year. they also do dinner if you order it and it was amazing - it wasn't especailly cheap, but would have been three times as much in a restaurant. there were even multiple choices for mains and desserts on the night. breakfast was pretty amazing too! can't recommend the B&B highly enough so here's the website for anyone who's interested:
