  • Ask to speak to the CSA complaints anmd ask them for longer time to pay it....or i would write telling them it was their mistake and you want to appeal....i was given a date of contact and the CSA changed it i wrote and complained i told them if they didnt back date it to my inital date of contact (as it was there fault) i wanted the money owing off them...they soon whipped themselves into shape!!! Ive found with the CSA you have to be persistant.

Thank you elektra and Soubrette, I suppose I am just a bit touchy at the moment as it seems from the minute my ex began his affair back in 2001, left in 2004 I have been portrayed as the one at fault by him as I didnt as he puts it "forgive and forget for the sake of the children".

I agree about rather having no money and he disappear. Have thought about that many times but don't want my children accusing me of cutting them off in years to come - as it happens, he will have to answer why he hardly sees them as is always too busy or has "his own family commitments".

Anyways ..... a Small VICTORY this pm!!!! CSA admit they should have phoned me last month to discuss the alterations and whether I could afford to pay back and set up payment plan. This didnt happen and actually spoke to the lady concerned who was so apologetic that she didnt do it ...blah blah blah.
So, another paragraph added to the email of complaint I sent. Plus it appears the amount set up may have been incorrectly arranged and I may have a case for them forcing me into hardship!?? Who knows, but hey, if it shakes them up a bit for someone else that is a good thing.

Found out today that my ex has run up horrendous debts, which is what he did with me, though I only found out about that £45000 at mediation so if nothing else, I am grateful that I am out of it as leopards don't...... and you know the rest!!!
I am not a financial expert and I am not perfect but purrleeaassse don't be mean to me if I express an opinion that may not be quite what you thought. :p

Well done - hopefully you can sort out a reasonable repayment plan.

I think I over react sometimes because I am soooo angry with the ex - so angry that he is making me do all this extra work and prying into the life of someone that I never used to care about but now I hate.

And really angry that he could do this to his children.

So maybe I'm not a forgive and forget person either ;)

best of luck to you. I am sorry if it feels like people are getting at you, i dont think most people are, i think it is a case of talking out loud. My ex stopped paying me for over a year and then started paying me for two teenagers at £120 per month. so I do know what it is like to have no money. I dont have and never did have anough to put away any extra for for saving anything, and I work and have done since we split up so over 10 years.. so trust me i have sympathy for anyone who has a low income struggling to bring up kids. I also had to pay childcare etc.

I would definatley contact the CSA's complaint department and if you're persistant they will help you. When I initially contacted the CSA, it took over a year for them to start looking at my case, by which time I'd lost out on alot of money. I wrote to my local MP who helped me with my compliant and they eventually compensated me with nearly £2000 in missed payments. Once i'd got my foot in the door with their complaints dept they was so helpful unlike their customer services people!!
Good Luck and don't give in ;)
  • maintenance payments should never be relied on as a form of income as they are always dependant on the payments being made and the other party can have a change of circs at any time. ie losing his job etc which would result in you not receiving anything

You could say this about any income including your own employement income though.

I'd love to say that to HMRC - I'd like to make a claim for certain benefits, please discount my income as it should not be relied on in case I lose my job - just to see their faces :p

haha I'd love to say that too!!

I had similar probs with my ex refusing to pay etc etc and got the attachment of earnings jobbie to collect the csa payments. Only way i've managed to stay on top of keeping them up to date is to ring csa about once every 6 months to check they've got all details right - its a pain, but I'm on very good terms with my case worker now lol!

Good luck complaining - and congrats on the apology also!!

But with your own income you can at least see what may be coming most of the time, whereas if you don't have any contact with the NRP that is impossible isn't it? I know if there is a chance I may be made redundant, but I haven't a clue what my NRP is up to.
