Guarantor problem

Hello,
I'm a student and I'm looking to rent a place for which I have a gurantor, the only problem is I've received the application form from the agent and it says on the guarantor application.
Credit History -
Do you have any adverse credit history, settled or not (if you do you wont be able to act as a guarantor.
The problem is the person who is going to be my guarantor has a CCJ from around 20 years ago when they introduced the community charges. Obviously this is settled now and he has been in the same job for years, earns enough money to pay my rent and owns a house.
I know it says you wont be able to, but for some reason I would've thought something that long ago would be fine by now?

credit records only go back 6 years or so. A CCJ from 20 years ago shouldn't show up.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
