My partner's mum hates fresh flowers & we are hopefully staying at the venue the whole weekend so would be tricky anyway, so we decided to give both mum's, our witnesses, my sister & a friend who are both doing readings one of our table centre piece each, my partner does stained glass so she's making tall candle holders for each table that have stained glass flowers on two sides in our colours of blue & purple, she's also thinking of etching the date on. I hope it doesn't seem cheap, but we thought it would be a nice keepsake from the day.

We are getting married on Saturday and I've just finished wrapping up all the presents for everyone. We have ordered flowers for our mums but also one of these photo frames each so they have something that will last

  • I've got a dilemma in that I really want to get my parents something nice, as they are paying for practically everything (ceremony, reception, my dress, bridesmaid's dresses and cakes).

I don't want to offend OH's parents by giving my parents lavish presents and not them. However, as they are not paying for anything I don't want to offend my parents by giving them all presents of the same value. Not that my parents are giving for the sake of getting but I think that it should be acknowledged that they are putting so much in.

I should add that my parents are not rich and are making a sacrifices to pay for the wedding. OHs parents probably have less money but they are not making any sacrifices.

    Any thoughts?

    Totally see your point there.

If I were in that position I would probably give both parents the same gift at the reception (whether it be flowers, photo frame etc)...but on the morning of the wedding (or the night before) I would give my parents an extra gift, something a little more special to say thank you. That way it's more personal/private and no one else would feel left out.

  • my mum didnt realy help with our wedding as she lived far away, i still wanted to get her a present but didnt want to get her flowers so we got her a spa day at her local salon, she got her nails done, had a massage and a facial and she really enjoyed it, it cost around £40 but i had been buying gifts vouchers for the salon every now and then.
