Sell it as "spares or repairs" stating the exact problem. Put it on ebay and it might shift for more than you expect. That way the buyer is happy, and you can have a warm feeling inside and a bit extra cash in the bank.

Personally I would not want to sell a lemon for two reasons, it would not feel right and the comeback. From what you have said your OH is ok with the first but are they ok with the second. I think this thread could very easily get into the moral implications but it would not really help you.

You have a different opnion to the OH. I would ask them if they have thought about what happens when the buyer realises it is a lemon. Are they prepared to deal with it on their own? The buyer may have difficulty with a legal comeback (cost more to fight etc) but what about revenge etc.

Just a quick update....car has sold. Bloke came back with a mechanic to look at it and drive it and he still took it even although the mechanic experienced the power problem and knew about the warning light. He said it was still worth what we were asking (very little btw) as it was very clean and he could look at the power problem.

I'm relieved. If they've ended up with a lemon, it's now their choice iyswim.

Thanks for the update. It sounds a good result for everyone.

I was in a similar situation, not a car but difference of opinion with the OH. In the end I just said that it was his so if he was prepared to deal with it fine.

I hope that my post was not taken the wrong way.

No, not at all angel. :) I appreciated the replies and your comments only echoed my own thoughts anyway. Thankfully it all turned out ok.
