Not very helpful I know. It was good the doc looked into your background too! Could the platelet problem be hereditary? Sorry I'm not medically informed at all just concerned.
Hope you have a relaxing Friday night all I can say thank goodness its Friday:Axx
I don't think it can be hereditary but when the consultant heard I had just had the JAK2 test last year (which rules out one of disorders he said it was strange and looked up mine). My sister freaked when they mentioned that the problem lies within the marrow itself and producing too many platelets but I went through all this last year and I am still here;). I must admit though hers a a little higher than mine now and she has also got the other symptoms of the weight loss too and the aneamia and I have had a high white blood count too for years (nothing too bad but one that suggests an ongoing hidden infection or marrow probs??) and my sis has had "fluctuating" whites. Its very complicated to explain and I don't REALLY know a lot myself but I researched it cause I want to know what is up and it really is annoying going backwards and forwards, having this test and that test and getting no "real" diagnosis.
At the moment we both have been having our bloods watched for years, hers for 7 years and mine for about 4 or 5 years, and we both have a diagnosis of something called thrombocytosis (which basically means high platelets of no known cause) leukocytosis (which basically mean high white count) and neutrophilia (which usually means an infection but its a bloody long one:eek:). This can be from an infection but as they said to my sis yesterday (with hers though and not mine as they did not say it to me), it is more likely to be actually a problem with bone marrow and not an infection as it has gone on too long and they have got quite high now. Its one of these they think it is and are testing for. It mentions about a test called the JAK2 mutation but mine was negative so we know its not the one called polycythemia. (thank god) but my sis had it Firday so hoping hers is also.Basically I think our docs need something doing with their blood test tubes TBH. We will be fine.
