Buying a Kilt

Hi all I am thinking about getting a Kilt as im fed up hiring them all the time and the tartan that i like is never available to hire; but most of the shops up this way in aberdeen seem very expensive £800 upwards for the kilt outfit unless you want to buy an ex-rental one. Does anyone know what sorta price is about average and is there any cheaper way to do it ie buy the kilt one place and the jacket, belt etc from another?

Cheers

keep an eye out on eBay - and don't forget that you can also search "completed items" to see what prices they have been going for in the last month or so.

Try houston traditional kiltmakers, they are based in paisley but you can order online. We are using them for our wedding in june and they look reasonable, they have special offers on and they offer budget kilt packs. Their address is https://www.kiltmakers.com.

be very careful over the quality of the wool and the weight used, some are great for beer kilts but you will want a good quality one and it will last and last and last! my husband got his kilt for our wedding (23yrs ago - gulp!) his jackets too small now but thats all and he's worn it over and over at umpteen weddings, functions etc, when I think about how many outfits I've had to buy over the years - his def was the cheaper option, however I don't think I'd want to wear the same thing over and over but thats a girl thing lol!

what did some comedian say ' if a girls turns up at a do and another girl is wearing the same dress then its a disaster, but if a guy turns up wearing the same thing as another guy they think 'phew I got it right!'

What's wrong with ex-rental ones. As thrifty Scots, my family have always bought ex-rental kilts, jackets, etc. If you check them carefully, you can get very good quality and you can have it professionally dry cleaned, although this has usually been done before putting on sale.
  • There`s a cheap kilt in this weeks edition of Scot-Ads . Brand new 36" waist . Take a look

My neighbour is the kilt maker for a couple of kilt shops and she also has customers in America . They are all hand stiched and you can order any tartan that you want.
