My laptop is being incredibly slow, please help

I've done this, it says it found no malicious software, i think thats the term it used

Well I found the Windows Defender (on XP) a total waste of time, running the ZoneAlarm much better

Defragmenting may help once you've uninstalled all the crap you don't need but I definately wouldn't say 'massively'.



First sensible thing you've said.

All of these things have worked for me - I was trying to be helpful. These things are not instant fixes, and have worked for me on my laptop and also on my other desktop. My laptop's start up time was 15 minutes at one point, then I did all of the things that I have said above and it has lowered it to 4-5 minutes. It has also increased the performance when the laptop is on.

Download Ccleaner http://www.ccleaner.com/download/downloading install Ccleaner make sure to deselect anything to do with Yahoo. Once its installed open it, close all browsers and press run cleaner. After that to go tools>startup and disable anything to do with ArcadeDeluxe, PlayMovie, iTunes, Adobe, Google, QuickTime and anything else you don't need starting up with the computer you need to keep important things like the antivirus starting up.

I would totally recommend your using Cyberdefender as your anti-virus program. I had another program running on my computer and I still got a virus. When I downloaded Cyberdefender, it scanned my computer and found some bad things. It's blocked other things from getting on my computer too. It comes with 24/7 computer support so it's very handy that you can call them if you're having any trouble.

I highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for antivirus protection. Good luck - I hpe you get your laptop figurd out.
