Bananas

Just wondering - has anyone else thought about the net weight of bananas? Which is a better buy smaller bananas or larger ones? Obviously, smaller ones have less skins than bigger ones, but perhaps the skin to flesh ratio is the same. Any ideas? I must get out more!

I'll eat them any size!:rotfl:0

I buy the small skinny ones- cos my kids only eat one bananna at a time regardless; so the less they weigh, the less I pay- simple!:j0

Don't forget that the skins can be used as shoe polish for dark shoes!

What a strange thing to think about, it is something that has never crossed my mind actually!
I tend to buy small ones for the kids and large ones for me and dh, otherwise only large ones means the kids chuck half away, and only small means me and dh eat two, they then run out quicker!!

All of Sainsbury's bananas are fair trade. This includes the Basics range.
It's only a game

With small ones you get a larger number of portions* for the same price. That must be a lot more significant than flesh to peel ratio.
* If you're eating them whole by themselves, of course. If you're serving them in a salad etc then this advantage is less significant.0 -
this is not something ive really thought about i tend to buy large ones as we get through them quite quickly, will take a look next time i go shopping:xmastree:Is loving life right now,yes I am a soppy fool who believes in the simple things in life :xmastree:0

Why not try a simple experiment, weigh a large and a small banana with and without skins. It seems to me that the large banana will be the better buy though.Stompa0

and for those of you who throw a lot away: try a lakeland banana bag (about £5) which lets you keep them in the fridge. We have some that are nearly two weeks old, skin black and dull looking but insides still firm and edible.
I am a recent convert to this and used to throw a lot of bananas away.0
