Hi
I've been downloading stuff on the works laptop and got a virus (that it's antivirus didnt pick up but I added Avast and that did). I need to get it back to normal before returning it.
I won't recognise external drives within Windows (I can access them in Dos prompt). It also fails to recognise any ability to play sound and won't pick up any networks.
I have downloaded and loaded Samsung (it's an old samsung p28) but still nothing works. I've also downloaded some registry and computer clean up programs with no joy.
Has anyone got any further suggestions? Or will I have to re-install XP?
Does anyone know how to pick up and create a wireless connection from within the Dos command prompt window?

Not a techie, but you might try a System Restore. No reliance should be placed on the above.0

This would be something I would try, but make sure you have cleared all the viruses first. Do a full system scan for that, scan everything. And when you have done a restore, scan again just incase the virus was there when the restore point was made. Here a link to help you with the restore:
(just scroll down to the bit about restoring)

if its a work pc that you are returning, i would reformat the whole drive before giving it back to delete any history.0
