Sending a fax without a fax machine!

I need to send a fax but as I don't have a fax machine this is a difficult task! I have read that you can send faxes on the internet through certain websites. However all the ones I have found are quite expensive considering I only need to send one fax!
Does anyone know of any websites I can send a fax for free?
Or is there any other way I can send a fax?

I use Faxtastic (http://www.faxtastic.co.uk/) it's free and you have the option to just receive faxes or send and receive them. The faxes are e-mailed to you.

Out of interest, how do they make money from this? Do you get some adverts tacked onto the end of your fax or something?

If you use skype then you can get the Pam Fax add on

Faxtastic makes money by giving you an 0871 number so it costs anyone sending you a fax about 10p per page. You can get a geographic number for about £10 per year.

If you have a phone line a computer (with modem) and a basic scanner you have a fax machine.

A few years ago I used to use TPC - http://madhaus.cns.utoronto.ca/tpc/tpc_home.html

It's a free service but the cover page used to get an advert printed on it. The basic service is text but you can download client software to send text & graphics.
