Ryanair again...'Known as' name on booking

Hi,
Inlaws are off to Spain on the 29th with Ryanair. Another relative has booked the ticket, and unfortunately put Pa in law's middle name (by which he is commonly known) on the booking, rather than his first name. Both names are on his passport.
As it's a Spain flight, the advanced booking information is in, so it won't allow an online name change.
Can anyone advise - is it better to just book a new flight now, rather than go to the airport and get told to do it then. Name change fee is £100. Current flight cost is £62.
Advice much appreciated.

At risk of being controversial, if both names are on the passport and it's the name by which he's known, I think you might get away with it. (Has he got another ID that names him according to his middle/known name that he can use as secondary proof?)
Which airport are you flying from? Most smaller Ryanair airports (i.e. other than Stansted and Dublin) tend to be a bit more flexible with things like this. If you don't live far from the airport, perhaps you could pop in and ask someone at the ticket desk? £62 seems a bit steep for something that may not even be an issue.0 -
I booked a ryanair flight for my dad last year and did exactly the same - put his middle name(which he's known as) on the booking. The night before the flight I did the online check in for us all and dropped his boarding pass off so he could meet us in the departure lounge. He phoned in a panic when he noticed the name.
Because I'd already checked in I couldn't change the name.
We paid £1 each way for our flights and I wasn't keen on buying a new ticket so we decided to see what happened. Nobody mentioned it either at Prestwick or in Oslo. Both his names are in his passport too0 -
He has a variety of id with his middle name on...so can prove its what he's known as. I think I might follow omelette's advice and take a trip to the airport (Liverpool).
Thanks all....will post an update for future reference.

The update as promised....
We took a trip down to the airport a couple of weeks ago and talked to the Ryanair desk people. They were really helpful, and made the change for free. They did say it should have cost £100 mind you...so perhaps they just liked my winning smile (or newborn baby and stressed out face).
I wouldn't take for granted that they'd do it again however!

I'm not sure whether it was the smile/baby or just that people up here are generally nice and helpful, but I did say you were more likely to meet with success at Liverpool than somewhere else! Anyway, I'm glad it worked out well.0
