has anyone else ever had this happen:
pay a bill to gas company over the phone to a nice lady for £49.83
look at statement to find £649.82 has been taken out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
not helping my money saving!
Apart from ringing the gits at 8am and asking nicely for my money back, is there anything else anyone can advise me to do? (apart from sound slightly annoyed and change my gas provider)

Demand a copy of the phone conversation as you are entitled to under the Freedom of Information Act and demand compensation for your time, possible Bank charges for overdrawn and stress !
