Hi Ya,I have a HP Pavillion Laptop and it gets very hot, to the point that you cant hold it on your knee. I was wondering if anyone knew why this is or is this normal with all laptops.

Some run hotter than others. Are the fans running OK (put your hand over the vents to check)? Are the vents clear of dust? Get yourself a can of compressed air and blow them clean.
If there is a problem with either of the above you should get it sorted ASAP, as overheating will shorten the life of the laptop. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Hmm... That's quite unusual that it gets unbearably hot, but it is usual for laptops to warm up. When the laptop is hot, is the fan going round very fast? If it isn't, the fan may have become dislodged from the motherboard or is heavily covered in dust.
You probably do already, but make sure that the little square on the bottom of the laptop, with a grill on it, has plenty of space around it and that you are not blocking it in anyway as this is the air inlet for the laptop. The quickest way to become a millionaire is start off as a billionaire and go into the airline business.
