Tracing old bank accounts

I stopped using my abbey current account about 2 years ago because the charges added to my account made it very much overdrawn. There seemed no way out. All my benefits etc now get paid into my daughters account. I didnt close my account, but the bank requested my cash card etc. Since moving house i dont seem to have any info relating to this account. Am i able to find out the details of this account? It seems it may be worth me trying to reclaim these charges....they did amount to a lot of money. Any ideas?

You could try putting in a claim for the charges back but like everyone else, you'll have to wait until the court case throws up a decision.
If you've moved house since then and Abbey have sent letters to you, which have been returned or the bank deems to have lost contact with you, they may be chasing you for an overdrawn balance. On your credit file, they may record a GAIN entry (Gone Away Information Network) to say that you have moved house without settling this.
If you contact Abbey to reclaim your bank charges, they will ask for an address and then may start hassling you for the overdrawn balance!
Depends how much the charges are and a rough balance of your account when you last used it!
Just to note - I used that lost bank account thing, gave as much info as I could including the sort code and address of holding branch, got a letter a few days ago saying they were unable to find the account. Bit disappointed really but I may try contacting the bank my account was with.
Good luck, let us know how you get on!£2 Savers Club 2014 #74 - £4840
