legally write off unfair credit card and loan agreements

Hi I have been recieving phone calls from different companies telling me i can legally write off my credit cards if i have still got a balance on them and also if the agreement was taken out before 2007 under the consumer credit act of 1974 has anyone else had this or is this a scam as i thought if anyone would know it would be the money saving experts and i have not heard martin lewis talking about this 
always smile no matter how broken you are.
