I just found THIS, I like the idea of having part of the vows piped onto the side, obviosuly the person piping should know what they are doing and have a very steady hand lol.

I'm thinking of getting claydough figures made of me and OH, and our two dogs to put on top of a three-tier cake. That will make it very personalised and slightly humorous, and we can keep the figures as a keepsake afterwards.

My bm asked her mum for some tip's as she decorated her other daughters M&S cake for her, she cut circles from greaseproof paper stuck these to the bottom of the middle and top tier cake with a few spots of icing sugar, when that was dry popped a spot of icing on the top of the bottom/base cake, then popped the next 1 on top of this. It helps keep the cakes in place and stops the crumb's of the bottom of the cake going everywhere.
The cake seperated easily from the cake board using a pallet knife.
Reading back my directions it sounds a bit confusing, I do hope it's clear what I mean, if not just give me a shout please.

Thanks for your replies. I liked the sugarcraft daisies, so that's a new idea. I also saw this cake, which I thought was fun

I've never tried piping before, and wondered how hard it is, and what you can do if it goes wrong!!

I tend to like the more contemporary cakes with spots, hearts, stars etc on too and wondered how hard it is to cut out the shapes and stick them on?

i did this cake for my 21st i bought it just plain iced white and stuck on the spots adn tooper my self, i just made tesco icing ready to roll coloured rolled bought a circle cutter from ebay for about 40p, and some squires ediable glue, from ebay about 2.99 and edible glitter, about 2.oo ebay and i just cut out all the cirlce, leave them abot 5 min put glue on one side n glitter leave another 5 min, the glue on cirle hole on cake baout 1 min untill stuck and will not slide and leave marks... takes a whitle but easy and affective

This is our cake- we bought the large rose from Confetti for about £6, I think, then the small rose buds are handmade from a small cake shop but they didn't cost very much. The cake is actually all handmade and was a gift, but the decoration was cheap but effective I think. We got tons of compliments on it!

use dowels in the cake before you ice it, especially if you're stacking it on top of each other, this helps it stay solid and support the weight of the cakes and the decoration. Traditionally and for the supporting qualities of it, fruit cake is used for the bottom tier although you can use other types of cake, you can also put the thin boards beneath wach cake before stacking them and adding the dowels. You could attach a ribbon around the bottom so the slight gap or board would not be seen.

    There's a few tips here:
