I can partially agree there. The spec I wrote up was very nice but pricey. It basically depends on the kind of work you do. If it's maybe just a hobby then yeah it'd probably be worthwhile spending less. If you're a professional designer though spending £1,000+ isn't so bad.
Actually from what you mentioned a mac might be best suited, but a G5 will set you back nearer £1400+. I also assumed you already had Windows, Photoshop etc... as you mentioned them already.
Dell's are ok, good for the average user. Personally though, I prefer AMD over Intel, don't like the case/psu combination, nor the mouse keyboard you usually get, so Dell's wouldn't be my personal choice. Also I'd buy the tft seperately, get a highly reviewed one. Dell has some great tft's (the 1907FP and 2005FPW for example) but these don't come with the package deals."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0
