Woolworths in Germany went bust today. Until I saw this article, I didn't know there was a Woolworths in Germany. It is/was quite a big chain and has been around for a very long time. I suppose this goes to show how bad things are for retailers all over Europe.

Sorry it should not me laugh as it is not funny, but it seems doom as been a bit quiet so we have to ship it in from the continent.
I know the doomers like to think we like to import everything, but I did not think we imported our daily doom as well.;):D
Did the investment house have any relation to UK division?0 -
Shouldn't it be called Voolvorths?0

Indeedy. And I'm sure I read somewhere that they were the first shop in the world (or certainly the first major retailer) where you walked round the shop and were able to browse and pick up goods yourself and take them to a cashier. Up to that point you always asked the owner for what you wanted and they got it for you.
As with all my 'facts' though, I could be completely wrong.0 -

Woolworth, Mississippi is a ghosttown in rural Lincoln County. Showing all things link to the housing market, rofl (joke rabbid die hards of all extremes, its a joke)
The other stuff is quite interesting though....in passing.0 -
Shouldn't it be called Voolvorths?
The German W is pronounced like an English V (e.g. the W in "Wasser" sounds like an English V).
So despite the German V pronunciation, it may be spelled with a W.Favourite hobbies: Watersports. Relaxing in Coffee Shop. Investing in stocks.

So, isn't that why Cleaver said 'Shouldn't it be called Voolvorths?'
:rotfl:
(The silly smiley is to show that I'm not that pedantic about it).
