Cant get benifits but...

I'm unemployed at the moment but not entitled to any benifits, to much savings. If i register as unemployed will i get my NI contributions paid for though.

    Yes you will receive an NI credit each week but you will have to sign on as usual and be actively seeking and available for work.

    if you paid enough NI conts for previous 2 tax years you may get con based JSA.

    if not your NICs will get paid if you sign on every 2 weeks.

    Healy beat me to it, doesn't happen very often though lol

    Ok thanks guys, was aware already if you have paid enough NI you can get a certain JSA but ive been self employed and only paying class 2 NI so i cant. Hardly seems worth it to sign on every 2 weeks come to think about.

  • To the op, make sure you pay your NI conts because it will effect your entitlement to your state pension, it may be worth it!

    And having your NICs paid now could make the difference to being able to claim JSA/ESA in the future as well.
