Your petition has been approved by the Number 10 web team, and
is now available on the Number 10 website at the following
address:

Your petition reads:
We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Create A BBC
Radio Station For Over Fifties
Radio 2 used to represent shall we say the Older Generation in
programming, particularly Music Choice. Over the years instead
of say Jimmy Young or Michael Parkinson slowly but surely the
Station has been taken over by a younger generation of
presenter, and the Music which represented the over 50s
generation of 50s to 70s Music is being replaced by much of the
current day music There are plenty of New BBC Stations galore
which represent music of the relatively young like Radio 1, 6,
BBC1 Extra and the rest, but Nothing for the over 50s
Generation. Some Commercial Stations do this and concentrate on
Golden Oldies, but not the BBC. So let us have a brand new BBC
Radio Station which will play Music from around say 1950 to
around 1970 and therefore put right this 'Anomaly'!
Thanks for submitting your petition.

Have you asked the BBC?If you will the end, you must will the means.0

Have you asked the BBC?
No, I don't have any faith in that approach as I believe that I would only get a polite spin rejection of this particular suggestion. Call me a cynical soul if you like.;)
As this thing gets going I will soon contact the Jeremy Vine Show on BBC2 with a view to making this an item.
I will fire off letters to various Government Ministers and now I have started, also to the BBC informing them of my Petition.
Plus of course the various Forums and any other way I can gain Publicity. Please remember this is just Day 1 of a nine month Petition.
Please wish me luck and I do hope that you sign the Petition.:beer:You've heard the budget speech now you've been told. No, certainly not!
Even if such a station existed I wouldn't listen to it. I've never listened to Radio 2, mainly because I didn't like the presenters, what they played was of secondary interest.
Listening to nothing but music from 1950-1970? Perish the thought! If that's what you like, why not buy the CDs and play them?Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

I think our broadcasting is much too segregated as it is. I don't want any more. And why didn't you contact something like Feedback on Radio Four - it's the sort of thing they'd make a feature of and get an answer to - save you bothering the prime minister, who has much more on his plate than this.0

The Radio 4 suggestion is a good one. Thank you at least for that.
As to Brown, you really didn't think I expected him to listen to a suggestion from the Public do you? If he did it would be the very first time:mad:
As to his plate, he put all the inedable stuff on his plate as it is and the only trouble with that is that it is us poor odds that have to eat it!:mad::mad:
The Petition is just a platform for further publicity to the cause, with or without the approval of pessimists:rolleyes:You've heard the budget speech now you've been told. I'm with you on this one Margaret Clare. I enjoy some music from the 50's to 70's but I also like the 80,s,90,s and 20,s (2000's).
Often wondered what school children will sing to me when I am really elderly and invited to a Xmas party for retired people. Songs from WW1 and WW2 wouldn't be suitable for my age group and I really can't see them singing Coldplay or Duffy or Elbow to us.0 -

Not me, this particular 50-yr old finds plenty to listen to on Radios 4, 2, 1, 3, 5live, and 7. I don't want the BBC's money to be spent on a music station that plays what someone else thinks that I as a 50+ person should be listening to.
I wish there was an option on these petitions to vote "not for me" as well as "yes".loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.0 -

You claim to be cynical yet you believe that the No. 10 petition site can achieve anything?
(BTW, I didn't really mean to Thank you, consider it an undeserved bonus.)loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.0 -

I'm 50+, i find plenty of music to listen to on the radio.
You may just have a selfish streak?
How rude to ask people to sign a petition on this stupid subject, ther are more needy causes in this country.
Do grow up m8.0
