Web Hosting

Hi all

I am looking to get a new website going and wondered if anyone could point me in the direction of the best value hosts. There seem to be loads out there now and I just dont know where to start. It will just be a personal website so I wont need vast amounts of pages etc. Just enough to put some information about me and stick a load of pictures on there (animations etc).

Please feel free to move this if it has been answered elsewhere. Similarly if there is a useful article on this somewhere, point me to that.

Cheers

If you aren't after anything special Heart Internet have free hosting available. I have used them several times for sites I have, and have never had any problems.
If I have helped in any way, and you feel like it - please press the thanks button

Have a look at http://www.zymic.com/ you will need a HTML editor like front page or a free one like KompoZer http://kompozer.net/download.php
Or have a look at something like google sites
Zymic has no adverts or anything like.

I wouldnt used a free hosting company they are normally quite slow or contain lots of ads. Try www.earlsweb.co.uk :)

Vidahost is £25 for 2 years and you get a free domain name too, and transfers also free. The is a 10% code out there too.

Earswood don't look too good, for £40 a year you get 3GB bandwidth a month! Not a huge amount!
Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.

hmm says 7GB per month on their website?! Any way I think they are more for smaller comapnies/individuals on a budget, I ahve used them on a few websites and they seem to be more flexible than bigger companies (i have used a few other 'big' companies), for example they look at your bandwidth and adjust it to more if needed with no extra costs.
