When should I see results? (impatient)

Hi all
Decided to make an effort to grow veg this year.

Two weeks ago I planted some carrot seeds and swiss chard seeds.

So far, no sign of any carrots and only two little chard plants about 2in high.

The rest of the patch is covered in little weeds that look clover.

I think my soil is pretty infertile (London clay and full of stones) but I dug plenty of homemade compost in and stuff like daffodils grow ok.

Should I be seeing more results by now?

  • I think my carrots this year took just over a couple of weeks to start sprouting through, i've got them inside at the moment in the middles of loo rolls as pots as we're far north and im expecting another frost. We've got a quite clay based soil and our carrots have been fine in the past!

With the chard i have absolutley no idea!

Give it a bit more time, you don't mention if you have planted them indoors or oudoors. Planted indoors stuff is coming up quickly in my south facing conservatory but the soil isn't too warm still outside so it will take longer for them to germinate if this is where you have planted them.

I planted brussel sprouts, carrots, cabbages and chard last week in the conservatory which I imagine was really hot over the weekend, the sprouts and cabbages have appeared but the carrots and chard are taking longer.

Thanks, the beds are outdoors. There was a mild frost a couple of days after I planted the seeds, hopefully that won't have killed them!
